11thEuropean Space Power Conference - October, 3-7-2016
Assistant Professor, Filippos Farmakis, will present at the 11th European Space Power Conference supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) the very promising results of the Project “High Specific Energy Lithium Cells for Space Exploration”, an ESA TRPactivity (Contract No: 4000109879/13/NL/LvH).
The paper discusses the development of high specific energy Lithium-ion cells, capable of operating under low temperature conditions, i.e. -40oC. Such cells maybe encountered in future exploration missions, which do not consider the use of Radioisotope Heater Units.
The Conference, supported by ESA and organized by CERTH (Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas) and FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas) in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 3-7 October 2016, will be a major event for the Power Industry related to Space Applications. Moreover, terrestrial applications will have a significant share of representation, as Henri Barde, Chairman of the 11th ESPC states: “Indeed the ESPC is the forum of choice for whoever is interested in all aspects of electrical power for space applications or who is involved in cutting edge research on these topics for terrestrial applications which, in many case, have little to envy to space ones”.
